Use the Apple Account shown on the purchase receipt to cancel an App Store subscription. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings -> your name -> Subscriptions, select the plan, and choose Cancel Subscription or Cancel Free Trial. Confirm the change and check the expiration date or cancellation status.

Cancellation normally stops the next renewal; it doesn't automatically refund a charge that has already been processed. A paid subscription generally remains available through the end date Apple displays. If the plan isn't listed, check the receipt before repeating the same steps. Another Apple Account, a family member's account, or a different billing provider may control the subscription.

Check who controls the billing

An app downloaded from the App Store isn't necessarily billed by Apple. The original receipt usually identifies the account and payment channel:

Apple's subscription cancellation instructions cover the main device and account options. A bank statement can help identify a charge, but the receipt is the better record for finding the account and billing provider.

Cancel on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap your name or Apple Account at the top. If you don't see it, sign in first.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription or Cancel Free Trial.
  6. Confirm the cancellation.

You can also use the App Store:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your account picture.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the plan and follow the cancellation prompts.

Afterward, look for the expiration date or a message saying the subscription won't renew. Save a screenshot and any confirmation email. If there is no cancellation button but an expiration date is displayed, the plan may already be set not to renew.

Cancel on a Mac

On recent versions of macOS:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Click your name in the sidebar. Choose Sign In if needed.
  3. Select Account Settings.
  4. Scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage.
  5. Click Edit next to the subscription.
  6. Choose Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Some Mac versions also show subscriptions in System Settings under your Apple Account. If that option is available, select the plan there and use the cancellation control. Otherwise, use the App Store steps.

Cancel from the web

If you don't have your Apple device, go to Apple Account, sign in with the account that received the receipt, and open Subscriptions. Select the plan, choose the cancellation option, and save the confirmation.

A valid subscription can appear to be missing if you sign in with a different email address. Search your email for the Apple receipt and try that Apple Account before contacting support.

Cancel on a Windows PC

If Apple Music or Apple TV was purchased directly through Apple on a Windows computer:

  1. Open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app.
  2. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
  3. Choose View My Account.
  4. Find Subscriptions and click Manage.
  5. Select Edit next to the subscription.
  6. Click Cancel Subscription and confirm.

If Google Play billed the subscription, use Google Play instead. If the service's website billed it, use that website's billing settings.

What cancellation changes

Cancellation normally turns off the next automatic renewal. It doesn't usually:

For an active paid subscription, Apple generally shows an end date and allows access through the period already paid for. Free trials and promotional offers can have different access terms. If you don't want a trial to become a paid plan, cancel before it ends, preferably at least 24 hours in advance, and read the confirmation screen carefully.

If a renewal has already posted, cancel the subscription first to prevent another renewal. Then submit a separate refund request.

How to request an App Store refund

Apple reviews refunds separately from subscription cancellations. To ask Apple to review a charge:

  1. Open Apple's refund request portal.
  2. Sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
  3. Choose the option to request a refund.
  4. Select a reason and the subscription charge.
  5. Submit the request and monitor its status.

Refund approval isn't automatic. Apple may consider the purchase, the Apple Account, the country or region, and the circumstances described in the request. Canceling an annual plan doesn't by itself promise a prorated refund.

Give an accurate explanation, particularly if the subscription was accidental, didn't work as described, or was purchased without authorization. If the charge doesn't appear in the portal, check another Apple Account and find the receipt before asking Apple Support for help.

Apple One and other bundled subscriptions

To change or cancel Apple One, open:

Settings -> Apple Account -> Subscriptions -> Apple One

Review the options Apple displays. You may be able to switch to individual services instead of ending the entire bundle. Check which services will remain available and when the change takes effect.

Apple One can include services used by several people in a Family Sharing group. Canceling the bundle can affect other family members' access after the current period ends, so the person paying for Apple One should review the confirmation screen before proceeding.

Family Sharing does not merge subscriptions

Family Sharing lets family members share eligible purchases and subscriptions without sharing one Apple Account. It doesn't automatically give the organizer control over every adult family member's personal subscription.

The Apple Account on the receipt is the key account:

Apple provides additional information in its Family Sharing guidance.

When the cancel button is missing

A missing button usually points to one of these situations:

What you see Likely reason What to do
No cancel button and an expiration date The subscription is already canceled Save the expiration date and confirmation
The subscription isn't listed You're using the wrong Apple Account, or another provider billed you Check the receipt and other accounts
The app was deleted but charges continue Removing an app doesn't cancel its subscription Use Apple, Google Play, or the developer's billing page
A renewal appeared after cancellation The renewal may have processed first, or another account or plan was charged Check the cancellation date, receipt, and refund options
Settings won't load or shows an error A temporary device, connection, or account problem Restart, update the device, try the App Store or web route, then contact Apple

Don't remove a payment method or uninstall the app as a substitute for cancellation. Those actions don't reliably turn off automatic renewal.

If Apple charged you after cancellation

Gather these records before asking for help:

If Apple billed the purchase, start with Apple's support and refund processes. If the receipt identifies a developer or another platform, contact that provider instead.

If a credit or debit card charge remains unauthorized or unresolved after you contact the billing provider, ask the card issuer about its dispute process and deadline. A card dispute is separate from cancellation and doesn't guarantee that future renewals will stop.

U.S. scope and country-specific terms

This article is for U.S. consumers. Apple's refund and cancellation terms can vary by country or region, subscription type, and payment route.

The FTC has described negative-option marketing as including automatic renewals and free trial offers. That seller-facing framework doesn't identify which Apple Account was billed, replace Apple's cancellation controls, or guarantee a refund. If an offer was misleading or cancellation was unusually difficult, preserve the offer, receipt, and cancellation records before seeking consumer assistance.

Apple's country-specific terms may provide rights that don't apply to U.S. purchases. For example, Apple's UK Media Services terms describe a 14-day cancellation right in certain circumstances. That example isn't a general 14-day refund deadline for a U.S. Apple Account.

Common questions

Does deleting an app cancel its subscription?

No. Cancel through the provider that bills you. Deleting the app only removes it from the device.

Can I use a subscription after canceling it?

A paid subscription generally remains available until the end date shown after cancellation. Free trials and promotional plans can have different access rules.

Can I cancel after Apple has charged me?

Yes. Cancel to prevent the next renewal, then request a refund for the charge that already posted. Apple reviews the refund separately and doesn't guarantee approval.

Why can't I find a subscription I know I bought?

Check the receipt for the Apple Account used, ask the family member named on the receipt, and determine whether the developer or Google Play billed you. An App Store download alone doesn't prove Apple handled the payment.

If a charge is already posted, save the receipt and cancellation screen before submitting the refund request.
